...What if, behind the word "leukemia", there was much more than just a disease?
“Guérir les globules” is a documentary podcast series about leukemia, a blood cancer that affects more than 10,000 people every year in France.
By giving a voice to patients, families, caregivers, researchers, and patient advocacy organizations, the series offers a multifaceted perspective on leukemia. It takes listeners on an immersive journey through the patient experience — from the moment of diagnosis and the different stages of treatment, to the challenges of research and the hope of recovery.
An accessible podcast that helps listeners better understand the different types of leukemia, available treatments — including chemotherapy, bone marrow transplantation, and innovative therapies — as well as the comprehensive care provided to patients.
A leukemia diagnosis can turn patients’ and their loved ones’ lives upside down. As the causes of leukemia remain largely unknown, receiving a diagnosis is often accompanied by uncertainty. Through Stéphanie Fugain’s testimony, alongside the voices of patients, caregivers, psychologists, and researchers, this episode explains what leukemia is, the different subtypes of this disease — which can affect people at any age — and the various stages of patient care.
The episode also highlights pediatric care, described as “the most beautiful profession in the world” (Professor André Baruchel), where treatment relies on a therapeutic alliance built around a three-way partnership between the patient, their family, and healthcare professionals. This podcast gives a voice to all those working together to build a strong defense against leukemia and guide patients toward recovery.
The episode is directed by Vanessa Nadjar, written by Charlotte Bouquerel, and produced by Radio France Studios.
For many years, chemotherapy was the main treatment for leukemia, with sometimes significant side effects. Today, advances in research are paving the way for more targeted, more effective, and less toxic treatments, tailored to the different subtypes of leukemia. Through the testimonies of researchers, healthcare professionals, and patients, this second episode explores how scientific breakthroughs have deepened our understanding of the mechanisms underlying leukemia, helped identify the abnormalities that transform a normal cell into a leukemia cell, and led to the development of new therapeutic strategies.
A better understanding of the different types of leukemia is essential to improve outcomes and ultimately cure more patients. Through the testimonies of researchers, healthcare professionals, and patients, this third episode from the Leukemia Institute explores what remission means, as well as why some patients experience relapse. Understanding the mechanisms that drive relapse is now one of the major challenges in research, with the aim of developing increasingly effective treatments.
This podcast is directed by Vanessa Nadjar, written by Charlotte Bouquerel, and produced by Radio France Studios.
